What Are The Factors That Affect Laser Engraving?

Lasers can perform many types of machining. Such as surface heat treatment of materials, welding, cutting, punching, carving and micromachining. CNC laser engraving machine processing objects: organic board, cloth, paper, leather, rubber, heavy board, compact plate, foam cotton, glass, plastic, and other non-metallic materials. CNC laser engraving machining technology has been widely used in many fields such as mechanical industry, electronic industry, national defense and people's life. What are the main factors that affect CNC laser engraving machine?

There are mainly the following six aspects:

1. Influence of output power and irradiation time

The laser output power is large, the irradiation time is long, the laser energy obtained by the workpiece is large. When the focus is fixed on the surface of the workpiece, the larger the output laser energy is, the larger and deeper the carved pit is, and the taper is smaller.

2. Influence of focal length and divergence Angle

The laser beam with small divergence Angle can obtain smaller spot and higher power density on the focal plane after passing through the focusing lens with short focal length. The smaller the spot diameter on the focal surface, the finer the product can be sculpted.

3. Influence of focus position

The focus position has a great influence on the shape and depth of the pit formed by the carved work. When the focus position is very low, the light spot area across the workpiece surface is very large, which not only produces a large bell mouth, but also affects the machining depth due to the energy density preference. As the focus increases, the depth of the pit increases. If the focus is too high, also in the workpiece surface light spot is large and large erosion area, shallow single depth. Therefore, the focus should be adjusted according to the workpiece process requirements.

4. Influence of energy distribution within the spot

The intensity of the laser beam varies from place to place in the focal spot. The energy is distributed symmetrically at the micro axis of the focus, and the grooves produced by the beam are symmetrical. Otherwise, the grooves after carving are not symmetrical.

5. Influence of the number of exposures

The depth of the machining is about five times of the groove width, and the taper is larger. If the laser is used multiple times, not only the depth can be greatly increased, the taper can be reduced, and the width is almost the same.

6. Influence of workpiece materials

Due to the different energy absorption spectra of various workpiece materials, it is impossible to absorb all the laser energy gathered on the workpiece through the lens, and a considerable part of the energy is reflected or projected and scattered. The absorption rate is related to the absorption spectra of the workpiece materials and the laser wavelength.
